The Black Beauty was a heavy, black, single-speed steel bicycle built to carry people, groceries, tools, and entire families. Gardeners rode it into the suburbs before dawn. Domestic workers used it to commute into the city. A week’s shopping could sit on the rear carrier, and somehow there was always room for one more passenger.
A tribute to the people who rode out of necessity, long before cycling clubs, performance gear, and weekend rides. It celebrates the strength, resourcefulness, and everyday stories carried on two wheels.
